Edward Cummings has declared he’s “champing at the bit to get back to work” and return to the training fold after Racing NSW lifted his suspension on Friday with immediate effect.

Cummings will resume his training career back at Hawkesbury where he enjoyed strong success before electing to return to Leilani Lodge last October in a bid to revive his previous training partnership with father Anthony Cummings, son of the late, great Bart Cummings.

Not long after Edward’s return to Leilani Lodge at Randwick, a Cummings family stronghold for decades, Anthony was issued with a “show cause” notice by the industry regulator Racing NSW, following revelations his business Rosscarbery Holdings had gone into liquidation with significant debts.

In February, Cummings had his licence revoked by Racing NSW, and despite initial plans to appeal the decision, elected at the 11th hour not to, drawing to a close his successful training career.

Following the news, Edward Cummings has spent recent weeks working feverishly to demonstrate to Racing NSW officials that he should have his training suspension lifted, with those efforts proving successful, telling owners on Friday “he feels fortunate to have come through it with the promise of better days to come”.

“I am pleased to announce that Racing NSW has lifted my suspension, effective immediately,” Cummings said.

“While the last four weeks have, at times, ranged from the surreal to the bizarre I can only say how fortunate I feel to have come through it with my license intact and the promise of better days to come.

“I will begin the process of setting up where we left off at Hawkesbury, this time with 26 boxes.”

Among Cummings’ successes while at Hawkesbury was guiding Duais to group 1 glory in the 2022 Australian Cup at Flemington.

It’s understood the Australian Turf Club (ATC) will soon outline a tender process for prospective trainers interested in applying for the Randwick-based Leilani Lodge stables.

“I do plan on applying for the stables at Leilani Lodge when the time comes,” Cummings said.
