Ciaron Maher raider Sayedaty Sadaty continues Caulfield and Melbourne Cups trail in Gordon Stakes at Goodwood

Ciaron Maher and Australian Bloodstock have their latest spring Cups contender and Sayedaty Sadaty will be on show when racing at Goodwood in the United Kingdom this week.

Fab’s Cowboy has his last week as a racehorse

Australian Bloodstock knows what it takes to win the Melbourne Cup and has a suspicion its latest potential Cups contender Sayedaty Sadaty is “a very good horse.”

Sayedaty Sadaty, to be trained by Ciaron Maher in Australia, will be in action at Goodwood in the United Kingdom on Thursday, midnight (Australian time), where the European three-year-old will contest the Group 3 Gordon Stakes (2412m) at Goodwood.

TAB has the colt priced as the $4.60 second pick behind Aidan O’Brien’s favourite Jan Brueghel ($1.95) in the five-horse race at Goodwood.

Sayedaty Sadaty was last seen running fifth behind superstar City Of Troy in a brutally quick Group 1 English Derby (2400m) in June.

Sayedaty Sadaty is currently rated a $26 chance in the Caulfield Cup and a $34 chance in the Melbourne Cup.

“He’s come out of some of the best form in Europe in recent times,” Lovett said.

“The Epsom Derby this year was a very good race.

“The talk is City Of Troy could be one of the best horses to come out of Ballydoyle.

“I like that our horse has got speed, he won at a mile, he’s not a slow stayer, he can quicken up.

“I have got a suspicion he’s a very good horse.

“The race this week is a Group 3, mile and a half contest.

“So if he could run top three that will just tick another box as far as meeting the qualifying conditions for Cups in the spring in Australia.”

Gold Trip 2.0: Maher's new spring Cups raider

Lovett, whose Australian Bloodstock company has won Melbourne Cup with Protectionist (2014) and Gold Trip (2022), said this week’s race will provide valuable intel about how Sayedaty Sadaty will fit into the spring pecking order.

But he feels he could be elite.

“I really think it’s a good year in Europe and I really think he’s a smart horse,” Lovett said.

“I will be disappointed if he doesn’t run well, we will learn a bit more about him.

“The Ballydoyle horse that Ryan Moore rides in the race (Jan Brueghel) is a very good horse, so we will get a good handle on where we fit in.

“If our horse runs right through the line at a mile and a half then we would certainly consider a Melbourne Cup, he would only have one Cup down here in Australia and it wouldn’t be both.”
