Caulfield tips, best bets and analysis for Group 1 Memsie Stakes meeting

A Lindsay Park-trained galloper could continue his rise through the grades while a frontrunning mare could be tough to run down in Saturday’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

News Corp form analyst Brad Waters takes an early look at Saturday’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes meeting at Caulfield.

BEST BET

RHEINBERG (Race 2, No.14)

Rheinberg is an improving type punching his way through the grades. He’ll get a beautiful run from barrier one and can win again.

VALUE BET

LITTLE BROSE (Race 5, No. 1)

Little Brose was solid when resuming behind the smart Cylinder in the Vain Stakes. He’ll be fitter for that and the extra distance will be perfect.

RACE 1: 12:05PM MRC FOUNDATION CAULFIELD HANDICAP (1600m)

An even field to start the Caulfield meeting but there’s not a lot of obvious speed in the opener. BLAZERRO (1) did it tough and fought on well at Sandown third-up but will be at peak fitness for this. RED PHANTOM (4) is racing well in this grade and will be advantaged on the speed. GEORGIE GET MAD (11) made a solid start to his campaign last time and is a second-up winner. EYE OF THE EAGLE (6) is on trial at 1600m but is racing well.

SUGGESTED BET: Blazerro to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Aspen Colorado $5 – $4.60.

RACE 2: 12:35PM CHANGING PLACES REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1400m)

Big field but happy to have RHEINBERG (14) on top after two impressive wins this time in. He’ll get the perfect run handy to a slow pace from barrier one and should be too sharp. FIRST MATE (4) was a strong Caulfield winner last start and looks the main danger. MAKTOOB (13) will give a start but impressed with his acceleration last time in. CHORLTON LANE (2) is going well in Sydney and should be respected.

SUGGESTED BET: Rheinberg to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Chorlton Lane $6 – $4.40.

RACE 3: 1:10PM FIERCE IMPACT – PEDIGREE PHYSIQUE PERFORMANCE (1400m)

This is one of the day’s harder races but going with NUNTHORPE (8) to improve on her sound first-up outing at Sandown with another 100m to suit her perfectly. REO (1) improved sharply last time in and drops back from Group 1 level for this. BEOUR BAY (4) is racing in great heart and should again have every chance. EXTREME STEP (7) sprinted well to score second-up and will be fitter.

SUGGESTED BET: Nunthorpe to win.

RACE 4: 1:45PM EVERGREEN TURF HANDICAP (2000m)

AFFORDABLE (11) showed plenty of staying talent when a soft winner over 2100m at Sandown third-up and can handle the step up in grade at Caulfield. FRIGID (14) is on trial at the distance but is shaping as though 2000m will suit. PITCHANUN (13) returns to 2000m after a solid effort at The Valley and she’s always thereabouts in her races. DILLIAN (10) found 2400m too far at Sandown but is a 2000m winner and can improve after a freshen.

SUGGESTED BET: Affordable to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Queen Takes King $14 – $11.

RACE 5: 2:20PM GROUP 3 IVE> MCNEIL STAKES (1200m)

A smart field of three-year-olds engaged here but Blue Diamond winner LITTLE BROSE (1) will be much fitter for his first-up fourth in the Vain Stakes and will be suited at 1200m. SCHEELITE (5) did a great job when close-up despite racing on inferior ground in the Vain Stakes. He’ll be fitter. LEGACIES (12) is unbeaten in easier races but should be competitive at this level. BARBER (2) is unbeaten first-up and has the services of Blake Shinn.

SUGGESTED BET: Little Brose to win

TAB MARKET MOVER: Barber $4.40 – $3.80

RACE 6: 2:55PM LISTED TILE IMPORTER HEATHERLIE STAKES (1700m)

Not expecting a lot of speed in this, which should give JIMMY THE BEAR (15) every chance. He stalked the speed before finishing strongly to win a deep race last time out and has a big fitness advantage on most of these. THE SUMMIT (16) improved sharply when defying the bias to score at The Valley second-up and has drawn well. SIR LUCAN (11) is likely to be one of those racing on the speed and he was a first-up winner last time in. EMISSARY (2) won this race last year and is worth thought.

SUGGESTED BET: Jimmy The Bear to win.

RACE 7: 3:35PM GROUP 3 TOBIN BROTHERS COCKRAM STAKES (1200m)

Godolphin mare PARISAL (2) is a bombproof type that trialled well in Sydney before running on well to win at this level first-up in Sydney. She relishes 1200m and prevailed in her last Melbourne run. BENEDETTA (7) was too classy for her rivals at Flemington first-up and she’ll measure up to Group company here. Forget DANCE TO DUBAI (8) ran down the straight in the Aurie’s Star Handicap where she was on the wrong side of the track. Expect improvement. WROTE TO ARATAKI (4) is a first-up winner that has performed well at the jumpouts.

SUGGESTED BET: Parisal to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Parisal $4.80 – $3.90.

RACE 8: 4:15PM GROUP 3 THE MCCAFE 1100 STAKES (1100m)

This is possibly the toughest race on the card. MAGIC TIME (13) has only suffered one defeat in four starts and has trialled well in good company leading up to this. SIGH (12) impressed when running on well to win the Monash Stakes at this level in July and will be fresh for this. BELLA NIPOTINA (3) is a Group 1 winner that races well on this track and must be respected. ASFOORA (6) is always competitive wherever she races and Saturday will be no exception.

SUGGESTED BET: Magic Time each-way.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Asfoora $3.60 – $3.50

RACE 9: 4:50PM GROUP 1 STOW STORAGE MEMSIE STAKES (1500m)

Tough race for punters with so many runners at different levels of fitness but ANNAVISTO (14) should be wound up for her best chance at winning a Group 1 race. She has an outstanding first-up record and looks set to dictate proceedings from barrier four. ALLIGATOR BLOOD (3) is as tough as they come and will roll forward despite drawing wide. MR BRIGHTSIDE (1) was an emphatic first-up winner and will be fitter. I WISH I WIN (2) is likely to settle behind the other three but will be storming home.

SUGGESTED BET: Box trifecta 1, 2, 3, 14

TAB MARKET MOVER: Mr Brightside $4.40 – $4.20.

RACE 10: 5:25PM NEDS SUPER SATURDAY HANDICAP (1400m)

Difficult finish but DEVOTED (14) made a terrific start to her campaign when narrowly beaten by the smart Amenable first-up. She’ll be fitter and will only carry 50.5kg after Tatum Bull’s claim. REGARDSMAREE (8) backs up from The Valley last Saturday but is working up to a win. LET’SROLLETHEDICE (15) has been off the scene for a while but his jumpouts indicate he has returned in good order. HERE TO SHOCK (2) has a tricky gate but will be fitter for a sound first-up effort.

SUGGESTED BET: Back Devoted with a saver on Regardsmaree.
