Brisbane Racing Club chief executive Tony Partridge has resigned after five years in the job.

BRC staff were told on Wednesday morning and it is expected Partridge will finish up by the end of the week.

The BRC will now launch a hunt for a new chief executive and are expected to conduct an extensive search, hoping to have a new CEO in place in the coming months.

Racing lovebirds have fierce rivalry on the track

Partridge told Racenet: “After five years as BRC CEO, I have resigned to take on a new challenge.

“I believe now is the best time for me to depart with the business, having just delivered another successful Stradbroke season and opened our newly built licensed club.

“I am incredibly proud of the record operational revenue the BRC has achieved as a diverse business during my time as CEO, but I am most satisfied with the reputation Brisbane racing and our venues enjoy for world-class racing and friendly customer service.

“I will miss the conversations with BRC team members that all share a passion for thoroughbred racing.

“Working with experts in their fields from tracks and grounds to hospitality and property has been a highlight of my career.”

Last December, Partridge hit the headlines when he teed off on green groups pushing for tracks to be sold off for affordable housing.

In a letter to members at the time, Partridge slammed Greens councillor and Brisbane Lord Mayor candidate Jonathan Sriranganathan after he proposed to turn Eagle Farm into 4000 apartments and green space as part of his election pitch.

“Let’s be frank about these comments – the Greens despise horse racing,” Partridge wrote at the time.

Partridge came into the job in 2019 with a background of having been chief operating officer and acting chief executive of the Australian Turf Club in Sydney.
