‘Complete turd’: Legend blasted for ‘selfish’ $109M power move

Vijay Singh has been blasted as a “complete turd” by a fellow golfer, who accused the Fijian of hijacking lesser players’ paydays.

Not everyone is a fan of Vijay Singh.

The field for the Korn Ferry Challenge at TPC Sawgrass in Florida has yet to be finalised, though an early list of participants surfaced on Twitter and three-time PGA major champion Vijay Singh is among them.

The Korn Ferry Tour is traditionally for golfers who have yet to qualify for the PGA Tour, and Singh — and his $AUD 109 million in career earnings — did not go unnoticed by his fellow players.

“Hey @VijaySinghGolf you are a true piece of trash if you except (sic) money playing in a Korn Ferry Tour event and I’ll say it right to your face,” 35-year-old Brady Schnell wrote in a series of since-deleted tweets.

Schnell also called Singh, 57, “selfish” and a “complete turd” and elaborated further on why Singh’s participation in the tournament was immoral.

“Do you know how much those points and money could do for a young kid? He’s a complete turd for playing,” Schnell wrote. “He’s got his money and he’s got his career. Just wait another month and roll with your senior friends.”

The June event is scheduled to be the minor-league tour’s first one back since being postponed for the coronavirus pandemic. The Korn Ferry appearance would be a first for Singh, who still regularly competes on the PGA Tour.

Schnell has participated in every Korn Ferry event this year but has missed five of six cuts. After earning a PGA Tour card for the first time in 2018, Schnell dropped back to the Korn Ferry Tour after making just six cuts in 21 PGA Tour starts last season.

“I’ve said my piece,” Schnell wrote. “Whether you agree or not, I am just trying to protect the money AND the valuable points for every player on the tour that needs them to move on to the PGA Tour. There is NO point to him playing.”
