Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry hit big tons in Australia’s win over India

The partnership between Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield is off and running, with the former whacking a ton in her second game – alongside a century to Ellyse Perry – to bury India in Brisbane.

Perry hits 4000th run, Voll makes 100!

Georgia Voll’s dream start to her national team career has continued, with the Queenslander scoring a century in Australia’s series-clinching 122-run victory over India at Allan Border Field on Sunday.

Having made an unbeaten 46 on debut last Thursday night in steering Australia to victory in the opening game of the three-match one-day international series, 21-year-old opener Voll upped the ante in game two with an innings of 101 off just 87 balls as Australia posted an imposing total of 8-371 from 50 overs after winning the toss and batting first.

India could only manage 9-249 from 44.5 overs in reply, with injured all-rounder Priya Punia not batting.

Opener Richa Ghosh top-scored for India with 54, but led by Annabel Sutherland (4-39), Australia’s bowling attack proved too much to handle in the hot Brisbane conditions, with the tourists’ hopes of keeping the series alive heading into Wednesday’s final game in Perth dashed.

“It’s so nice to be able to do it at Allan Border Field,” Voll said after her century.

“I’ve played a lot of my cricket here, and with my family and friends also in the crowd, it’s pretty special.”

And it wasn’t just Voll who scored a ton, with Ellyse Perry topscoring with a superb 105 of only 75 balls.

It was Perry’s third ODI century, with the star all-rounder also becoming the fourth Australian women’s player to pass 4000 ODI runs.

Beth Mooney chipped in with 56 off 44 balls, as the hosts – despite losing several wickets late in their innings – posted their highest ODI score since 1997.

The Australians made a great start, with Voll and Phoebe Litchfield combining for a blistering opening partnership of 130.

The tourists finally had some joy in the 20th over when Litchfield fell for 60, caught at short cover by Smriti Mandhana off the bowling of Saima Thakor.

Voll, who has come into the team as a replacement for injured captain Alyssa Healy, brought up her century in the 32nd over before being dismissed soon after when she edged behind to wicketkeeper Ghosh, with Thakor again the successful bowler.

“It’s great to see `Volly’ kicking on with a hundred in only her second game,” Australia’s coach Shelley Nitschke said.

“It’s been such a good opportunity for `Volly’, debuting on her home ground at AB Field, and just to have the success and how she’s slotted in, in her first two games.

“She’s fitted in really well on the back of (Healy’s) injury.”

The hosts made one change to the team that beat the Indians by five wickets last Thursday, with fit-again bowling all-rounder Sophie Molineux replacing leg-spinner Georgia Wareham.

India also made one change, with spinner Minnu Mani given an international ODI debut, at the expense of Titas Sadhu.
