The coronavirus pandemic has prevented ex-Adelaide United coach, captain and football director Aurelio Vidmar from attending his mother Maria Vidmar’s funeral because of the government’s self isolation orders.

Aurelio is currently based in Singapore, coaching Lion City Sailors in the Premier League.

He was expected to fly to Adelaide on Tuesday two days after the Australian Federal Government made compulsory 14-day self-isolation for overseas arrivals.

“No lockdown here,’’ Vidmar said.

“But I couldn’t travel back for mum’s funeral.

“(There was a) 14-day isolation (order from the Australia Federal Government) from Monday and I was travelling Tuesday night

“I tried everything, but no chance.

“Plus, (it’s) putting too many people at risk.”

Maria’s funeral was to be held at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Thebarton, on Thursday.

The mother of Aurelio and assistant Socceroos coach Tony died peacefully on March 2 at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, aged 80.

Tony was expected to be at the funeral, said Aurelio.

Singapore had until Wednesday recorded 313 cases of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a number of South Australian soccer players have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic including Socceroos Craig Goodwin, Awer Mabil and Brandon Borrello and fringe Matilda Alex Chidiac.

Atletico Madrid’s Chidiac, 21, is in lockdown after the Spanish government declared a state of emergency for two weeks.

“I’m okay, we are just in lockdown at the moment for the next 15 days so everything’s closed except for supermarkets and pharmacies,’’ Chidiac said from Madrid.

Saudi Arabia-based Goodwin, 28, is also in lockdown in Jeddah.

The nation had banned all international flights before the ministry of health reported 238 coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

All sports in Saudi Arabia were suspended from Saturday until further notice.

“They are in lockdown, confined to their compound house,’’ said Goodwin’s father, Tony Goodwin.

“Lucky they did a big shopping (spree) before hand.

“He and (partner) Katelyn are both good.

“He is doing his own personal training to keep fit.

“Netflix is getting a hammering.”

Mabil, 24, plays for Denmark’s Midtjylland in a competition which has been suspended during the country’s lockdown where 1024 cases were recorded on Wednesday by the government.

Heart of Midlothian left back Garuccio, 24, is contemplating a return to Australia, says his former teammate, Adelaide United’s Stefan Mauk.

The Scottish premier league was earlier this week shut down until further notice.

Scotland had recorded 227 coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

Freiburg of Germany’s Borrello, 24, has been training at home, with his club posting a video of the South Australian’s new ball tricks.

The Bundesliga has been suspended until April 2.

Germany has recorded 8200 coronavirus cases.

Andrew Marveggio, 27, of FK Bokelj of Montenegro said the soccer league had been suspended for 15 days.

“No-one is allowed to train for one to two weeks, but they are monitoring the situation day by day,’’ Marveggio said

“So, it could be extended.”

Montenegro recorded its first two cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Former Adelaide City centre back Tomas Maricic, 24, of Thailand’s Lampang said the Thai Leagues had been suspended from the beginning of March until April 18.

“We are still training as normal,’’ Maricic said.

“In terms of living there haven’t been any restrictions as of yet.”

Thailand had recorded 212 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

Young Blue Eagles goalkeeper Dawson Bojanic, 16, on trial with Slovenia’s NK Triglav Kranj is also in lockdown with 275 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
