The Socceroos have overcome a plucky Syria 1-0 in their second clash of the Asian Cup overnight.
The win puts Graham Arnold’s men clear on top of group B with one match to go, securing their place in the second round.
Jackson Irvine opened the scoring in the second half in a repeat of the first game against India, finding the back of the net minutes after three substitutions from Arnold.
Syria were resolute, however, and threatened several times at the end of the first half.
