Nottingham Forest are interested in signing free agent Tim Cahill, Sky Sports News reports.

According to Sky sources, the 38-year-old has been offered a contract by former club Millwall after flying to London on Monday.

The Australia international has been holding talks about a return to his former club, where he spent six years before signing for Everton.

Cahill has been playing in his native Australia but left Melbourne City in December and is seeking a return to action as he targets a place in the national squad for the 2018 World Cup.

The former New York Red Bulls and Shanghai Shenhua midfielder believes he needs regular game time after helping Australia qualify for this summer’s tournament in Russia.

Cahill began his professional career in England with Millwall in 1998 and played a key role in the Championship side’s surprise run to the FA Cup final in 2004, where they lost to Manchester United.

He also won the League One title and played in two play-off finals in his six-year spell at the south London club.
