Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted that Aaron Mooy is “very much in my range” as speculation mounts that the Socceroos playmaker will join the Hoops.
Living in Scotland and a free agent after parting ways with Chinese club Shanghai Port, Mooy is reportedly set to sign with Celtic.
Following Celtic’s 2-2 weekend friendly draw with Blackburn Rovers, former Socceroos coach Postecoglou expressed his admiration for Mooy, without confirming whether the 31-year-old ex-Melbourne City star would sign with the Hoops.
“He’s another footballer who is very much talented and very much in my range, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to bring him in,” Postecoglou said.
“Aaron’s a fantastic footballer, somebody I know really well. I’m sure he will get picked up, he’s a very talented player.
“In terms of us, we have got a plan that we are sticking to and so far I am pretty happy with the progress we are making on all fronts and hopefully there will be some news coming out before the season starts.
“We are going through the process and making sure we get the ones that we need.”
Mooy’s signing would help Celtic fill the midfield void left by another Socceroo, Tom Rogic, who left the Glasgow giants at the end of last season.
Despite concerns over the wellbeing of Rogic, who last month withdrew from the Socceroos’ World Cup playoff squad, Postecoglou told the Scottish Daily Express that “Tom’s fine”.
“He’ll get his next move done, and I’m sure he’s in a great place. As far as I know, and I haven’t been in contact with him, but the people I know say that he’s got no problems,” Postecoglou said.
