Hayley Raso has been instrumental in the FA Cup demise of her Matildas’ captain Sam Kerr.

Chelsea a good challenge for Sam Kerr

Matildas winger Hayley Raso has played a leading role in the demise of Sam Kerr’s Chelsea in the English women’s FA Cup.

Raso set up the winning goal for Everton in their 2-1 weekend quarter-final win over Cup favourites Chelsea at Goodison Park.

“I’m absolutely buzzing,” Raso said.

“We came out here and we made a statement, and the girls are just so happy, we’re all so happy with the win.

“I think we can go all the way. There has been a lot of talk about how Everton would go this season, and I think we’re definitely showing that we are heading in the right direction.”

Chelsea led 1-0 through Erin Cuthbert before Everton responded, with Raso heavily involved.

“I’ve come over here put myself in a new environment and I want to prove myself the way that I do,” said Raso, who fought back from a career-threatening broken back in 2018.

Everton meet Birmingham in Thursday morning’s semi-final. In the other semi-final, Arsenal take on Manchester City on Friday morning.

Coached by Australian Joe Montemurro, an Arsenal side containing Matildas star Caitlin Foord thrashed Tottenham 4-0 in their weekend quarter-final.

“We controlled the rhythm though and I was very pleased in the second half when we stepped it up a gear,” Montemurro said.

Tottenham’s side included another Matilda, ex-Sydney FC star Alanna Kennedy.

“For me personally and a few of the other girls, we haven’t been here long and it’s only been a few games together so there’s a few things we can work on,” Kennedy said.
