There were upsets, controversies and blowout victories on a massive day of Champion of Champions semi finals action.

Over 70 teams entered the weekend as championship contenders and now only the two best teams from U12 to seniors remain in the hopes of being crowned Champion of Champions.

The Lindfield FC U15 girls squad overcame a tough battle against Lilli Pilli FC to make the grand final, scoring a controversial goal to go up 2-1 with minutes to go in the match.

Player Ines Griffiths said the team knew they had to keep their focus.

“I think we had to go in with a lot of power,” Griffiths said.

“We had to put our foot down, have intensity and know that we didn’t want this to be our last game.”

The team had been the ones to beat all season in the Northern Suburbs Football Association, going undefeated through the regular season.

Captain Charlotte Taaffe said her team’s best attribute across the year has been their bond on and off the field.

“We’ve bonded so much over the past season,” Taaffe said.

“We’ve just come together as a collective and we work as a team, not individuals.”
