New Zealand international Dane Ingham wants to leave Brisbane Roar despite being contracted to the club until the end of next season.
Sources close to the club have told The Sunday Mail that 19-year-old Ingham, who won’t play again this season due to a broken foot, wants to move to Perth Glory for the 2019-20 A-League campaign.
Roar football director Shane Stefanutto would not confirm or deny Ingham had asked for a release.
“He’s a contracted player, he’s a required player,” Stefanutto said.
Ingham’s desire to leaves comes hot on the heels of marquee man Eric Bautheac last week telling The Courier-Mail he had spoken to other A-League clubs and overseas teams.
Bautheac is among host of off-contract players whose futures are in limbo as they wait for the club to appoint a permanent replacement for John Aloisi, who quit as coach in late December.
Darren Davies remains in charge in an interim capacity, and is contender to become Aloisi’s official replacement along with Carl Robinson, and favourite, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.
The Roar will miss the finals series for the first time since 2010 after a disastrous season.
Brisbane are on just 15 points, having lost 14 of their 23 games, with the latest defeat coming on Friday night when they were beaten 3-1 by Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium.
Fans continue to stay away, with just 8059 in attendance to a fixture that has previously crowds of more than 20,000.
It was the sixth successive Brisbane home match that has failed to break the 10,000 mark.
Brisbane’s coaching ranks are also running thin, with Davies now on to his third different assistant in three months following the departures of Ross Aloisi and Drew Sherman, whose expected move to Melbourne Victory was confirmed last week.
Martin Bullock, who started the season as a coach of juniors at the Roar Academy before being elevated to the role of Academy director, is Davies’ current assistant.
The shortage of coaches is affecting Roar Academy teams, with another of the club’s junior mentors, former Brisbane and North Queensland midfielder Chris Grossman, having to cancel a training session on Friday because he was needed at Suncorp Stadium to help with the A-League team’s preparations.
The Roar play their final away game of the season this Friday night when they meet Melbourne City at AAMI Park.
Brisbane then complete their campaign with three successive home games against Wellington Phoenix (April 12), Newcastle Jets (April 20) and Adelaide United (April 25).
