BOYHOOD Adelaide United fan Brandon Borrello intends to inflict further misery on the Reds at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.
South Australian product Borrello makes his latest return to Adelaide as part of a Brisbane Roar squad high on confidence and form after three straight wins.
In contrast, the Reds – who last season won the A-League premiership-championship double – have lost four on the trot to be sitting rock bottom on the ladder.
Attacking weapon Borrello, who is hoping for a recall to Brisbane’s starting XI after three successive appearances on the bench, won’t let sentiment cloud his task tonight.
“I used to go to watch Adelaide play a lot when I was a kid but now it’s all the way with the Roar,” Borrello said.
“We know they’re a better team than what the table says at the moment, but we’re confident we can keep our run going.”
With star Roar striker Jamie Maclaren away on Socceroos duty, 21-year-old Borrello is a chance of returning to the starting team tonight as part of a reshuffled Brisbane forward line.
Borrello prefers playing as a winger but also has experience as a centre-forward.
“If I play from the start, great, if I don’t play from the start, I’ve just got to make sure that if and when I do get a chance to come on, I have an impact,” he said.
Borrello had an undoubted impact off the bench two weeks ago when he scored the Roar’s winner in their 2-1 home victory over Perth.
It’s his only goal of the season, but he could have at least had another two, having spurned golden opportunities in the same match against the Glory and in the Roar’s 1-0 Round-3 win over Central Coast Mariners.

“I could have scored a couple more but if we can keep creating opportunities, I’m sure more goals will come for me,” he said.
Two of Borrello’s five goals last season came against Adelaide.
And if he needs any further motivation to score tonight, it will come in the form of Reds defender Ben Garuccio.
The pair went head-to-head as juniors in South Australia, while Borrello got the better of Garuccio last season when the latter was a Melbourne City player.
Roar coach John Aloisi wouldn’t be surprised if the pair exchanged some “pleasantries” on Friday night.
“It got a bit fiery between them last season,” Aloisi said.
“Brandon’s really looking forward to this match. It means a lot to him to do well in Adelaide.”
