With the A-League suspended because of coronavirus, Brisbane Roar coach has returned to the UK to be with family.

Roar coach Robbie Fowler has returned to England to be with his family during the coronavirus crisis.

A source close to the Roar told The Courier-Mail that Liverpool legend Fowler flew home to the UK on Thursday.

It’s thought that Brisbane technical director and Fowler’s right-hand man Tony Grant has also returned to Britain.

Football Federation Australia suspended the A-League season on Tuesday when travel restrictions forced by the coronavirus outbreak ended hopes of the closing weeks of the campaign being finished by next month.

FFA will give an update on April 22 on the hopes of the 2019-20 season being completed.

Roar chief executive officer David Pourre did not return The Courier-Mail’s calls on Thursday.

Under current travel guidelines, Fowler would have to self-isolate for 14 days when he returned to Australia.

The Roar are currently placed fourth on the A-League ladder, having enjoyed a resurgence under Fowler since late December.

Brisbane started the season slowly but have lost just two of their past 13 matches and were on a three-game winning streak when the season was postponed.

Fowler and Pourre addressed the squad on Tuesday, with the players having been given the rest of the week off.

The club hopes its players will be permitted to train separately in small groups of four next week at the Roar’s Logan base.
