The 34-year-old Australian skipper was married in 2018 with the pair revealing earlier in the year that they were expecting a bundle of joy.

“Welcome to the world Esther Kate Finch,” he wrote.

“Our little princess arrived yesterday at 4.58pm weighing 3.54kg. @_amyfinch did an amazing job and both her and bub are very healthy!”

The cricket world was quick to react.

Aussie cricket legend Merv Hughes tweeted: “Congratulations to the Finch’s”.

Cricket commentator Alan Wilkins wrote: “Many Congratulations to you both! And welcome to the world Esther Kate Finch, with proud parents Amy and Aaron!”

Former Aussie quick bowler Peter Siddle commented with the raising hands and a heart emojis, while Geelong Cats AFL star Mitch Duncan added: “Congratulations”.

Finch, who has played all three formats for Australia but thrived with the white ball, has had a testing period on the field in recent times.

After going through a miserable run of form in T20 matches at the beginning of the year where he scored just 169 runs in 11 innings, averaging 15.39 with a high score of 39.

He then struggled in New Zealand in a T20 series against the Black Caps.

Finch didn’t feature in this years’ IPL either after he was axed by Royal Challengers Bangalore after making 268 runs at 22.3 in 2020 after he was dropped mid-season for young Aussie wicketkeeper Josh Phillippe. He was then snubbed in the IPL auction.

Finch led Australia in the ill-fated series in the West Indies but underwent knee surgery in a bid to be available for the T20 World Cup from October 17 in the UAE and Oman.

Finch damaged cartilage in his right knee during the series, reaggravating the injury in the final game.

It meant he was unavailable for Australia’s disastrous tour of Bangladesh.
