‘Hopefully see you soon’: Glenn Maxwell confirms major IPL news on social media

One of Australia’s biggest stars has made a shock announcement and won’t be chasing a big payday overseas.

Glenn Maxwell’s Indian Premier League career could be over after the white ball superstar didn’t nominate for the upcoming draft later this month.

Maxwell, 37, has represented four IPL clubs and boasts a strike rate of more than 155 across his 13 seasons in the showpiece T20 league.

“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” he posted on social media.

“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever.

“Thank you for all your support over the years, hopefully see you soon. Cheers Maxi.”

Shane Watson and David Warner are the only Australians to have scored more runs than him in the competition, although Maxwell is coming off two lean seasons where he totalled 100 runs from 15 innings, with a finger injury prematurely ending his 2025 campaign.

Maxwell was let go by the Punjab Kings just last month on the back of two below par campaigns, with coach Ricky Ponting explaining the tough call to release one of the greatest players in the short format.

“I love Glenn and what he brings to the game. Unfortunately, last season we weren’t able to get the best out of him,” Ponting told Star Sports.

“Looking ahead to next season, we didn’t feel he would be part of our starting team, so we decided to release him.”

The auction will take place on December 16 where players from around the world are hoping to receive life-changing bids.
