The dangling bat whipped around and smacked into Warner’s head, leaving TV commentators to light-heartedly suggest the Sydney Thunder batsman should have had a concussion test before he was allowed to continue his innings.
The 38-year-old grimaced after the contact and his gobsmacked face said it all as he stared down at his bat.
“Kaboom. Straight into the back of the helmet,” Aussie great Brendon Julian said on Fox Cricket.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. I can’t believe I’ve seen that.”
Former Aussie wicketkeeper Brad Haddin giggled: “I haven’t either. I have never seen that.”
Aussie fast-bowling great Brett Lee called it a falcon.
Former Aussie Test captain Ricky Ponting on Channel 7 also called for a concussion test to be carried out.
Warner was eventually given a new bat and the match continued with the opening batsman proving to be the key pillar of the Thunder’s innings.
Warner reached 41 not out from 35 balls as the Thunder struggled to reach 2/65 after 10 overs.
