Day two moments: Scott Boland got his bunny one last time, ending Virat Kohli’s Test batting career in Australia
For the fifth time this tour, Scott Boland got his bunny. Virat Kohli’s final Test innings in Australia will be remembered as much for his emotional reaction as the standing ovation from the SCG crowd.

Virat Kohli’s final Test innings came to an emotional end at the hands of his perennial tormentor, Scott Boland.
These are the moments that defined an action-packed day two.
THE END
And so the circus ends. Indian great Virat Kohli ended his final Australian tour in a sadly familiar manner - and one that infuriated him. For the fifth time this tour, he fell to Scott Boland, edging a ball on a fifth stump line which has been Australia’s Plan A, B and C to him all summer. Kohli started his tour with a century in Perth but had just one other score above 17. The members’ stand stood to him as he walked off.
THAT HURT
Runs are like gold nuggets and every missed chance is cursed deeply. Steve Smith was shattered in the second last over of the day to give a reprieve to combative middle order man Ravi Jadeja. The leftie edged straight to Usman Khawaja at first slip who was getting his hand ready for the catch when Smith flew across with an outstretched right hand and knocked the ball to ground. How long Australia suffers from the miss on Sunday may decree who wins the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
BANG BANG BOLAND
India clearly decided to come out swinging in the second innings and Yashasvi Jaiswal stormed from the trenches against Mitchell Starc. Jaiswal loves punching the ball through the off-side and crunched four off-side boundaries in Starc’s first over which cost 18. Only West Indian Wes Hall (18 off an eight ball over) and Brett Lee (17) have bowled more expensive first overs in Australia but Jaiswal added only six more runs before being bowled by pin point prince Scott Boland.
FUN POLICE
Another blow-up at the SCG in a Test between Australia and India. Another foreign yellow substance catching the attention of officials when the Aussies were playing. Fortunately there was nothing sinister this time. A balloon had flown from the crowd onto the arena. Intercepted by umpire Michael Gough, he eventually deflated the vessel, looking a touch surprised as it happened.
AMBULANCE CHASER
It wasn’t quite OJ Simpson being chased in a white Bronco, but there was no shortage of drama as Jasprit Bumrah departed the ground in a convoy led by an ambulance, seemingly headed for scans. The stand-in Indian skipper left the ground following an injury scare, with the fate of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy potentially resting on the diagnosis.
LIVE BY THE SWORD...
Scott Boland had run through India’s top order. He was close to unplayable. So what did Rishabh Pant do? He came down the pitch first ball and whacked the Victorian for a six over cow corner. After much debate around the Indian gloveman’s dismissals in Melbourne and in the first innings in Sydney, it was clear he would once again live by the sword.
