Which Big Bash League grounds can you expect a runs fest at and which are a minefield for batsmen? We’ve crunched the numbers on how every venue played during BBL08.

Adelaide and Hobart have been confirmed as the Big Bash League’s batting paradises, with Marvel Stadium rating the trickiest pitch in BBL08.

Spectators at Adelaide Oval were treated to 12 scores above 150 from 14 innings, with a low score of 137 recorded when the Strikers skittled Melbourne Stars in 19.2 overs.

Adelaide has the best runs per innings average of any ground last summer (165.3), just ahead of Hobart’s Bellerive Oval.

Hurricanes openers D’Arcy Short (637 runs) and Matthew Wade (592) were the leading run scorers in BBL09, enjoying several profitable partnerships at home.

Hobart’s power-packed top-order of Short, Wade, David Miller and Ben McDermott will be out to continue the runs fest in BBL09.

The statistics at Canberra and Brisbane are skewed by a washed out game and a match which was abandoned when the lights went out at the Gabba.

However, we have provided the average with those innings taken out to give you an indication of how those pitches played in the majority of innings.

Sydney Showgrounds and Marvel Stadium maintained their reputation as the pitches with the most on offer for bowlers.

An average of 6.9 wickets fell in every innings at Sydney Thunder’s home ground – the Showgrounds – while 6.7 wickets was the average at Marvel Stadium.
