SuperCoach BBL: Which Sixers are must-have players for Round 10?

Josh Philippe has been the top-scoring wicketkeeper in SuperCoach BBL, averaging 57 points a game. Does that make him a must-have player when Sydney has a Round 10 double? TRADE GUIDE.

Moises Henriques has found form in his past three innings for Sydney Sixers.

The evidence is overwhelming.

Sydney Sixers, who boasted three of the top-10 point scorers of BBL09 after eight rounds, will have their third SuperCoach BBL double game week in Round 10.

Englishman Tom Curran (80), Ben Dwarshuis (65.8) and Josh Philippe (56.9) have been prominent scorers for the Sixers, with Curran the clear standout across their doubles in rounds 1 and 3.

The paceman posted scores of 176 in Round 1, snaring a combined 5-62 in victories over Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes.

Curran backed up those performances with 256 points in Round 3, clubbing 43 not out from 21 balls in the return fixture against Perth and starring with 2-23 and 35 from 17 in the Sixers’ super over triumph against Sydney Thunder.

If there’s one player you can’t be without in Round 10, it’s clearly Curran.

His role as the Sixers first-choice 20th-over bowler is as close to guaranteed points as you can get.

Curran has snared six of his 14 wickets in the last over and has twice bagged two wickets — worth 50 SuperCoach points — at the death.

He has also batted in the top-six in five of his nine matches, making scores of 21, 35 and 43 not out.

Dwarshuis was the standout Sixer in Round 1 and despite achieving an unwanted piece of history in Round 8 (0-61, the most runs conceded in a BBL innings) has taken 10 wickets and conceded less than eight runs an over during the tournament.

Philippe is one of the most-popular SuperCoach players (47 per cent of teams) and has only once scored less than 31 points (9 points, Round 8).

The opener dominated in Round 1 with 189 points and scored 127 when he led the Sixers to victory in Coffs Harbour with 83 not out from 52 balls.

Sean Abbott, who has been sidelined with a side strain, is worth monitoring.

If the paceman is due to return for Round 10, he would become a priority target after averaging 91.4 points.

Unfortunately Test tweaker Nathan Lyon will only play one match of the double after being ruled out of the January 16 fixture against Hobart due to a thumb injury sustained in the Sydney Test.

The battling Renegades have a bye this round, so move on the likes of Shaun Marsh and Sam Harper to bring in the topscoring Sixers.

TOP TARGETS

Tom Curran (Sydney Sixers) BAT-BWL $236,400 Avg: 80 Previous double scores: 175 and 256

Make him your captain in Round 10. The Englishman is the prototype SuperCoach BBL player. He bowls at the death, when most wickets fall, and has the freedom to attack from ball one at No. 6 or No. 7 in the Sixers’ batting line-up. He’s one of the most expensive players in the game but a must-have for next round.

Ben Dwarshuis (Sydney Sixers) BWL $165,000 Avg: 65.8 Previous double scores: 211 and 91

A combination of wickets and economy rate bonus propelled Dwarshuis to the No. 1 scoring Sixers player in Round 1. He collected 2-15 from four overs against Perth and 2-25 against Hobart. He’s taken wickets in six of his nine matches and showed his capabilities with the bat — albeit an unlikely source of points — by hammering 42 from 17 balls against Melbourne Stars.

Sean Abbott (Sydney Sixers) BWL $232,600 Avg: 91.4 Previous double scores: 174 and 180

This recommendation comes with a warning that he isn’t certain to return from injury. It might cause SuperCoaches less headaches if Abbott is still sidelined, as you’ll otherwise need to find $470,00 to accommodate him and Curran. Abbott was on a roll, taking 10 wickets in four matches, before an untimely injury which cost him a spot on Australia’s ODI tour of India.

Josh Philippe (Sydney Sixers) WKP-BAT $165,400 Avg: 56.9 Previous double scores: 189 and 78

Five of his nine scores in BBL09 have been 15 or less, but it’s a huge risk going into a double without Philippe. He opened the campaign with 81 not out against Perth Scorchers and also scored 83 not out against Adelaide in Coffs Harbour. If he replicates those efforts once in a double and you don’t have him, you’re going to be left a long way behind.

Moises Henriques (Sydney Sixers) BAT-BWL $124,700 Avg: 40.7 Previous double scores: 37 and 122

After taking time off after the birth of his son Archie, Henriques returned against Melbourne Stars with a knock of 41 from 25 balls. It was his third innings in four games of 35 runs or more after a slow start to BBL09. The Sixers skipper, who has averaged 25.8 runs and 40.7 SuperCoach points, is on an upward trend and went big in his side’s most recent double.

Daniel Hughes (Sydney Sixers) BAT $115,800 Avg: 35.3 Previous double scores: 40 and 116

The left-hander has been a consistent scorer without hitting the heights some of his Sixers teammates have. Hughes has six SuperCoach scores between 31 and 63 from nine games with a season-high total of 63. He’s been guilty of getting a start without capitalising in his past six matches, getting to at least 17 runs but failing to pass 40.
