SuperCoach BBL: Which Renegades dominate at Marvel Stadium?

Melbourne Renegades return to Marvel Stadium in Round 4, the venue where they took out the BBL08 title last season. Which Renegades should you be targeting in SuperCoach BBL?

Shane Warne excited about SuperCoach

Kane Richardson was a Marvel Stadium marvel last summer.

The Australian paceman was integral to Melbourne Renegades’ BBL08 success, claiming 14 of his 24 wickets for the tournament at his side’s home ground.

Those scalps came in a five-match stretch at Marvel Stadium as Richardson recorded hauls of 3-23, 3-22, 3-38, 2-17 and 3-27 under the roof.

Richardson was the No. 1 ranked Renegade in SuperCoach BBL as a result, averaging 74.5 points.

His form during BBL08 becomes a significant factor as the reigning champion has a run of three Marvel Stadium games in its next five, taking on Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars from December 29-January 10 on its home deck.

Marvel Stadium was the trickiest ground for batsmen in BBL08 with an average of 133.9 runs an innings as Richardson and his cohorts strangled opposition sides.

Will SuperCoach BBL’s record score in Round 1 of BBL09?

In five of his seven fixtures at the venue, the 28-year-old conceded less than seven runs an over — worth at least 10 points courtesy of SuperCoach BBL’s economy rate bonus.

His performances were even more meritorious considering in BBL07 he bowled 15 overs at Marvel for one wicket and an average of 137.

Englishman Harry Gurney — who has been out of sorts in the early rounds of BBL09 — was another to enjoy success at Marvel.

If he can replicate his form at Docklands from last season, the slower-ball expert could be a point of difference for the Renegades’ Round 5 double.

Somewhat surprisingly, all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been the Renegades’ most-consistent batsmen on their home pitch in the past two seasons.

The Afghanistan international has only failed to reach double figures once in seven innings at Marvel and compiled at least 26 runs in four of his five innings last season.

A word of warning for SuperCoaches — Nabi won’t be with the Renegades until later in BBL09 and will miss the Round 5 double.
