Renegades pace bowler Kane Richardson thinks a 14-game home and away BBL played in a shorter space of time would be ideal for the competition.
The first ball of the BBL season was bowled on December 19 and the Gades take on Sydney Sixers on Friday night in a semi-final that has been eight weeks in the making.
The Renegades had some five-day breaks this season with the longest spell a seven-day hiatus leading into the final game of the season.
“I’m happy with the games … I think it’s right, 14 games is right,” Richardson said.
“If they can find a way to get rid of those longer breaks (between matches) then everyone would be happy with that.
“I don’t know what the answer is, but if they can squeeze it into a shorter time, in terms of weeks, then that would be ideal.”
The Marvel Stadium pitch has been pilloried this season with the highest score 150, made by the Gades off 19.2 overs.
Richardson said adjustments needed to be made to bowling on the track too, but the BBL’s leading wicket taker had no complaints about the pitch.
“I love playing there,” he said.
“I know a few blokes have said the wicket(s) haven’t been up to scratch but I love bowling there.
“It hasn’t been as high-scoring as other grounds, but as a bowler that’s perfect.
“Obviously on Friday night we want the best product we can have, but if it’s 140 v 150 and we’re on the right side, I reckon everyone will be pretty happy.
“ … Our blokes should know it better than everyone else … I’m sure Finchy will know what to do.
“Traditionally you just try to bowl top of the stumps, at Marvel that’s the most effective length. Usually on grounds that are quite high scoring that’s the opposite; you try not to bowl there.
“Hopefully Friday night it’s a decent wicket and all that goes out the window.”
Richardson said the loss of all-rounder Mohammad Nabi to Afghan international duties was “massive”.
“Especially in the batting,” he said.
“But Cameron White’s obviously sitting on the bench; Beau Webster has done all right at times.”
Richardson wants fans to pack Marvel Stadium.
“There’s no excuses I think, it’s a final … we haven’t had one since the second edition of the Big Bash so there’s no excuses not to come out,” he said.
“I’ve heard it’s the sporting capital of the world so it’d be nice to see that in full effect.”
