GAME RECAP: HOW THE BBL GRAND FINAL WAS WON
RENEGADES
AARON FINCH 6
Went from blowing bubblegum bubbles to smashing plastic chairs down the tunnel after the unluckiest of non-striker run-outs, as Bird booted the ball into the stumps.
MARCUS HARRIS 4
Failed to see out a power-play, averaging 10.6 runs from seven BBL games. Now for the Duke ball as he ponders opening with David Warner in the Ashes.
SAM HARPER 3
The find of the summer was swinging like Tarzan through the trees, but couldn’t make sweet contact. His seven-ball stay put the Gades behind the eight ball although he’s certain to re-sign after plundering 341 runs as a replacement player.
CAMERON WHITE 5
Heaved a six over deep point and then the party ended. White’s straight drive ran Finch out and then he was deceived by Zampa’s straight one.
MACKENZIE HARVEY 4
Swept Lamichhane to the boundary and then crunched a Stoinis short ball to the rope. Two beautiful shots showing why Ian Harvey’s nephew will play for Australia.
TOM COOPER 7
It was like Cooper was trying to start a camp fire with damp matches — it took too long to light up, scoring 20 off his first 27 balls and then 23 off his final eight.
DAN CHRISTIAN 9.5
Averages 135 at a strike-rate of 158.8 from his past four BBL finals games. Move over James Faulkner, DC is The Finisher.
CAMERON BOYCE 8
Strained his neck muscles watching two sixes smashed over his head early and then turned the game on its head.
KANE RICHARDSON 7
The BBL leading wicket-taker endured a barren finals series but pressure applied helped derail his mates
CHRIS TREMAIN 8
Overlooked for the first 10 games and then started the rot with the one-two punch of Handscomb and Maxwell amid 13 dots.
HARRY GURNEY 8
Dan Christian reckons his Nottinghamsire teammate is the best death bowler in the world and it’s hard to disagree.
STARS
MARCUS STOINIS 7
Is ‘Stoinis’ Greek for arrogant? It was mighty impressive that Stoinis blocked more than a few, knowing he’s got the guns to blast when required. Averages 187 against Renegades this season.
BEN DUNK 8
So close to becoming cricket’s version of Tom Boyd. Brutal start to a lucrative contract but did his best to repay much of that five-year deal with a top score in the Grand Final.
PETE HANDSCOMB 1
Did Handscomb take it too easy walking out at 1/93? Lifted his second ball straight to Dan Christian’s safe hands at mid-off.
GLENN MAXWELL 3
Would’ve blown up his GPS running from long-on to long-on each over and waving his hands like he was an inflatable man outside a car yard. Great leadership won’t ease the pain of missing out with the bat.
NIC MADDINSON 1
Disastrous season for the bloke signed to help replace Kevin Pietersen. Failed to reach 20 runs.
SEB GOTCH 1
Came in as the temperature was cranked up and lasted just five balls.
DWAYNE BRAVO 5
Copped boos from Renegade fans while fielding early but silenced them with three consecutive dots in the 18th over. Was this Australia’s last look at “The Hottest Man Alive”?
JACKSON BIRD 7
Bird had two in the hand and then one off the foot when he freakishly ran out Finch. Came in to ruffle the top order and won his team the power-play.
ADAM ZAMPA 8
Shane Warne reckons his wrong-un is so crafty batsmen almost need to play Zampa like an offie. That ball a key to Australia’s World Cup defence.
DAN WORRALL 6
Ashes smokey challenged Marcus Harris in the first over but lost his length at the death with final over leaking 17 runs.
SANDEEP LAMICHHANE 8
Slammed the brakes on in the middle overs and, like a teenager’s face, his spell was covered in dots.
