KFC SuperCoach BBL: Blossoming romance created by fantasy

KFC SuperCoach isn't just about prizes or rankings glory — just ask this NSW couple who went to a BBL game on their first date.

This is the story of how KFC SuperCoach BBL launched a blossoming romance.

Isaac Kensell and Deniz Morali, both 29 and a couple from Manly, went for their first date at a Big Bash game.

From there Deniz got hooked on KFC SuperCoach BBL, News Corp’s Big Bash fantasy sports game featuring 75,000 players.

And despite knowing “literally nothing” about cricket, she ended up becoming the best female KFC SuperCoach player in NSW.

On the way she beat the likes of Fox Sports celebrities Shane Warne, Mike Hussey and Isa Guha – and smashing partner Isaac.

“I’m originally from Turkey and moved to Sydney four years ago,” Deniz told News Corp at the launch of KFC SuperCoach BBL on Tuesday, featuring a backyard cricket game with KFC SuperCoach BBL ambassador Shane Warne on the picturesque backdrop of Sydney’s Middle Harbour.

“Until then I had no idea about cricket, I’d never heard of it.

“A few years ago I met Isaac and he told me about how he loves cricket, plays cricket, watches cricket, he’s all about cricket.

“So he ended up asking me out to a game of BBL.

“He then got me into (KFC) SuperCoach. I was like ‘what is this thing he spends so much time on’ and I got into it.

“Last year was my first year and I was the top woman player in NSW.”

The secret to Deniz’s success is simple: “I’m much more of a risk taker than Isaac.

“He wouldn’t experiment on his team but I did and got lucky.”

“At the beginning when you are not scared of taking risks and you don’t take it too seriously, that’s when you do well.”

At Tuesday’s KFC SuperCoach BBL launch, Deniz was star struck by ambassador Shane Warne.

“It was great to talk to him,” Deniz said.

“He asked me a bunch of questions about my favourite player and who I think will win the BBL.

“It was a massive buzz to meet him.

A backyard cricket match with Shane Warne was one of the highlights of the launch.

Warne is back for his third year as KFC SuperCoach ambassador. He has spent a total of 48 days in COVID quarantine this year following trips to the India and England and admits to being “stir-crazy”.

“Playing (KFC) SuperCoach is just like backyard cricket — always fun, anyone can play, you don’t need a heap of skill, and always involves a bit of banter with your mates,” said Warne.

Warne has been tested for COVID 30 times this year.
