Many a fast bowler has been hit for a six on their BBL debut.
But we’d wager that Liam Haskett is the only quick to have had said six caught by their own father in the crowd.
Bowling in the fourth over for the Adelaide Strikers against the Brisbane Heat, Haskett had a tough time against Nathan McSweeney, going for consecutive boundaries before being sent into the members stand where father Lloyd took a fine catch above his head.
To Lloyd’s credit he kept the celebrations brief, putting his hands to his heart after realising what he had done.
“That man there is Liam Haskett’s dad,” Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Sports over a replay of the crowd catch.
“He sat back there and did not look thrilled at all with proceedings. He played it very cool – we just thought he was a cool customer but he was so disappointed that his son on debut had just been dispatched.”
“That’s got to be the first time ever,” Michael Vaughan added.
Haskett went on to take two wickets, finishing with figures of 2-43 in a 56-run win.
