Australia is wary of a backlash from an embarrassed India in Sunday’s women’s one-day international at Allan Border Field.
The Australians lead the three-game series 1-0 after beating the Indians by five wickets on Thursday night in Brisbane.
The tourists could only manage 100 with the bat in an innings than ended in just the 35th over thanks mainly to the effort of pace bowler Megan Schutt, who took 5-19.
Schutt’s opening-bowling partner Kim Garth expected a fired-up India on Sunday.
“We’ve had some really good games of cricket against India over the years, the last few years in particular,” Garth said on Saturday.
“I’m sure they wouldn’t be too pleased with how they went about their innings the other day.
“We know they have a lot of world-class players in their line-up, and I’m sure they’ll come out firing.
“We reviewed the game and spoke about what we did well, and we’ll concentrate on ourselves, focusing on what we do well, but we know India are a world-class line-up.”
As are the Australians, whose game one win was highlighted by Schutt’s effort with the ball and debutant Georgia Voll’s performance with the bat.
Opening the innings in the absence of injured skipper Alyssa Healy, Queenslander Voll anchored Australia’s successful run chase, finishing unbeaten on 46 from 42 balls.
“She was awesome. The intent she showed with the bat was really cool, and she played to her strengths,” Garth said of 21-year-old Voll.
“The messaging has been and will continue to be very clear from the coaches for her just to keep going and backing her strengths, and batting with that intent.
“She knows there’s no pressure on her.”
Healy, who has a left-knee injury, won’t play any part in the three-match series, which concludes on Wednesday in Perth.
However, she remains in contention to return for Australia’s three-games ODI series against New Zealand, which starts on December 19 at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
