All-rounder Will Sutherland is poised for an international debut with the Victorian set to be added to Australia’s one-day international squad to face the West Indies early next month.
It’s understood Sutherland, 24, is set to be included following a rib injury to Tasmanian paceman Nathan Ellis.
Ellis landed awkwardly playing for the Hobart Hurricanes during a Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Stars last week.
Sutherland becomes the fourth uncapped player in Australia’s ODI squad after Lance Morris, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Xavier Bartlett.
Fraser-McGurk and Bartlett were called up to the squad earlier this week at the expense of Jhye Richardson (injured) and Glenn Maxwell (managed).
Australia is also set to unveil its Twenty20 squad for the subsequent three-match one-day series against the Windies on Wednesday.
Sutherland is poised to join younger sister Annabel in playing for Australia.
They are the children of former Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland.
Will Sutherland chose cricket over a burgeoning AFL career where he had been in line to be a top-10 draft pick.
He was named Victoria’s Sheffield Shield captain earlier this season.
