Australia has fought back in a strong first day of the second Test, with a batting great making a huge claim over a Mitchell Starc delivery.

Australia has shown a welcome return to form after an entertaining first day of the second Test against India.

Coming into the match under huge pressure after a first Test walloping in Perth, Australia lost another toss and India chose to bat once more.

Seemingly well placed at 1/69 in the first session, the Indians collapsed, losing 9/111 to be all out for 180, Mitchell Starc dominating with 6/48.

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 42 was the top scorer for the tourists, with KL Rahul (37), Shubman Gill (31) and Ravichandran Ashwin (22) all getting starts.

But Australia has a daunting pink ball record, winning every day-night Test at Adelaide Oval from seven attempts, and took regular wickets to limit the Indian batters.

In reply, the home side lost Usman Khawaja (13) cheaply before home favourite Nathan McSweeney (38 off 97 balls) and the battling Marnus Labuschagne (20 off 67) guided Australia to stumps at 1/86, still 94 runs behind India.
