Tori Rossiter, Australia’s youngest shooter at Comm Games, nominated for School Sports Award

An SA shooter and Woodcroft Year 12 student is preparing for a busy few months with school exams and the Oceania Championships.

Bid for 2032 Olympics should take 'leanings' from 2018 Commonwealth Games

Tori Rossiter is used to keeping a steady hand and a calm outlook when it comes to representing Australia at various shooting competitions in recent years.

But Tori, who at 16 was the youngest member of the Australian shooting team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, was set to need all of her poise and planning soon. She is preparing for a big competition and also the pointy end of her Year 12 studies at Woodcroft College – which means an exam or three to contend with.

The national record holder will line up in the Oceania Championship in November after qualifying number one in her women’s 10m air rifle event at the Sydney Cup earlier this month.

At the Oceania Championships he hopes to help Australia win a quota of berths for her event for Tokyo.

Tori has been nominated for a School Sports Awards for her achievements.

“I’m feeling pretty excited but with everything going on and the timing of Oceania it will be a case of training, competing and then rushing back for Year 12 exams,’’ Tori said.

“We haven’t got many more chances to qualify the team but we are hoping to do that in November.

“Then there will be intense competition for the individuals trying to get on to the team.

“That will happen in February and March next year so it will be very busy.’’

Despite her youth, Tori excelled in her event at the Commonwealth Games where she finished seventh – the only Aussie to make the final in that competition.

The awards are co-ordinated by the School Sport SA office and Messenger Newspapers.

Overall winners of the awards will be announced at the SA Sports Awards and Hall of Fame dinner at Adelaide Oval on Friday, November 22, at 6.30pm.
