Katie Noonan to play Commonwealth Games closing ceremony after stinging criticism

KATIE Noonan, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games musical director criticised over the Games opening ceremony, will also star in Sunday’s closing ceremony.

Games organisers today revealed Noonan would perform alongside acts including Guy Sebastian, Dami Im, Yothu Yindi and Archie Roach.

Noonan sparked a bitter backstage feud after last week’s opening ceremony, with production sources claiming she had taken too big a role in the show.

Leading promoter Michael Chugg slammed the opening ceremony as a “f---ing disgrace”, claiming top Aussie artists had been offers just $2000 a song to perform, while Brisbane band Sheppard said Noonan was “nasty” and “karma is a bitch”.

Noonan defended the ceremony in a bizarre Facebook post which included a black and white photo of herself crying.

She said the ceremony was an “awesome musical soundtrack that reflected us as a mighty

world-class and proud mob of integrity”.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones said Noonan would be performing in the closing ceremony.

“The opening ceremony was a great ceremony,” she said.

“You talk to all of the international delegates that are here. They’re blown away by the talent of our local artists including Katie Noonan, so she’ll be performing with a whole range of amazing Australian artists in the closing ceremony.”
