As Transport Minister Mark Bailey apologised for the debacle, Mr Peters admitted more public transport delays during the Games were inevitable.

“If anyone thinks we’re going to be perfect, then you’re a lunatic,” he said.

“When you plan, you plan to be successful ... (but) there will be delays.”

Mr Bailey refused to rule out more chaos but said ‘adjustments’ had been made to bus scheduling.
