Phoenix Fierce made history on Wednesday night when they won their first game since joining the Senior Division 1 competition, with a strong 43-35 win over Cutters.
Fierce co-captain Tarin Moke said the victory was a major boost for the new club, and confirmed their position in the Far North’s premier netball competition.

“It was great to come away with the win,” she said.
“We’ve just been taking it one week at a time and we’re not really focused on the opposition at the moment.
“We’re just trying to get that team cohesion, so that was really pleasing.”

Moke said the Fierce had been adding in extra training sessions where possible, with a goal to improve every time they took the court.
“Last Sunday, we had a training session and just worked on our attack, which let us down in the first game against Sharks,” she said.
“We just wanted to focus on using that three seconds of time, because I think we rushed it in the first game.

“In the second game, we tried to slow things down and we got a lot of turnovers and were able to capitalise.”
Co-captain Akayla Peterson, who missed Round 1 with a hamstring complaint, returned in a limited capacity, playing half the game.
“It was nice to have her back in through the middle” Moke said. “She probably got about six intercepts in that half that she played.”
