A trip on public transport to the location of the scrapped Victoria Park Olympic venues takes less than a quarter of the time taken getting to the proposed QSAC stadium in Nathan.
After taking the hour-long journey from Brisbane’s inner city to QSAC, The Courier-Mail tested the route from the CBD to Victoria Park.
Getting on the bus at King George Square in Brisbane’s CBD, it is just a 10-minute journey riding three stops to QUT Kelvin Grove campus which sits directly between the university and Vic Park.
The journey paled in comparison to the one out to QSAC totalling near an hour and required a train and a bus.
Despite this, Premier Steven Miles scrapped the Graham Quirk-led review’s recommendation to build new Olympic facilities at Victoria Park in favour of upgrading the suburban QSAC.
The move raised many questions about how crowds would access QSAC and it was revealed the government had not budgeted to address the lack of transport.
When arriving at QSAC passengers would be greeted by a cemetery before a walk to the stadium.
At Victoria Park, which sits along Brisbane’s busway and would be serviced by the upcoming Brisbane Metro project, one gets off the bus with the university to the left and the park on the right.
