A former Sunshine Coast council chief executive has become the first person appointed to the state government’s Olympic Games infrastructure Authority.
Emma Thomas, who resigned as chief executive of Sunshine Coast Regional Council in recent weeks, has been appointed the interim chief executive of the newly-created authority.
She will begin in that role on July 1 for an initial period of six months.
Ms Thomas’ career has included roles as an engineer in the RAAF, a decade at Boeing, and positions at government transport departments in Queensland, South Australia and the ACT.
Laws to establish the statutory body were passed last week.
The body will operate at arm’s length from politics and have control over its finances, have operational independence and be subjected to public sector accountability.
