Boom! Boom!

Brisbane completed their best two-game weekend since re-emerging from the NBL wilderness in 2016 with a spectacular 90-74 victory over reigning champions Melbourne United on Monday night.

The Bullets upset United at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Saturday and backed it up in fine style as they finished over the top of the home side at Melbourne Arena to reinforce their spot in the top four with a 7-6 record.

The reborn Bullets had lost all five previous matches in Melbourne before Monday night.

The second-placed United had won 18 of their previous 20 home games and had not lost back-to-back matches since Round 3 last year.

But this Brisbane outfit is the real deal.

They can play pretty and gritty. They did both here, overcoming a 13-point deficit in the second quarter to blow United off the court after halftime.

They fought back from a 17-point deficit on Saturday to show they have heart and play smart.

Cam Gliddon and Lamar Patterson had 17 points each for Brisbane while Jason Cadee (16 points), Reuben Te Rangi (14 points, five rebounds) and Cam Bairstow (13 points, six rebounds) also starred.

Bench spark Jeremy Kendle also did his contract hopes no harm with two big buckets and a lovely assist in the fourth quarter when the Bullets kicked away.

“It was amazing. the way we did it. It just shows our team, we’ve got a lot of fight,’’ Patterson — who also had eight rebounds and two assists — said.

“We’ve got a lot of experienced players and a lot of hard workers and we deserved it. It was just a great win.

“I knew this team was special. Everyone just wants to win and it showed.’’

Casper Ware (22 points) and Alex Pledger (13 points and seven rebounds) got little help from their United teammates.

Brisbane upped their defensive intensity and hit the lead in the scrappy third quarter with two three-pointers from Gliddon silencing the crowd.

The Bullets kept United to just eight points for the term while Brisbane scored 15 points of their own to hold a 57-55 buffer at the last change.

Brisbane did remarkably well to be trailing by just five points at halftime given United dominated for large chunks of the opening two quarters.

The Bullets shot out to an early 15-6 lead in the opening minutes but Melbourne went on an 18-2 rampage, including a run of 13 unanswered points — to seize a 24-17 advantage at quarter-time.

United continued to cash-in on their momentum on the second term as they broke down Brisbane’s defence with relative ease, getting out to a 13-point cushion.

However, the fighting qualities of Brisbane emerged as Melbourne’s buffer was cut to 47-42 on the buzzer after a Te Rangi long bomb.
