Tim Tszyu faces the toughest test of his career to date when he takes on undefeated Russian super welterweight Bakhram Murtazaliev this weekend in the United States.

He’s unlike anyone the Aussie has ever fought and wouldn’t be out of place training with the likes of UFC phenoms Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev.

It looms as quite the task for the Australian boxing star in his first fight since the bloodied loss to towering American Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas, late March.

That loss was the first of Tszyu’s burgeoning career and there is a real risk Sunday (Australian time) will be his second with Murtazaliev undefeated from 22 fights.

The card – featuring three fights – will begin at 10.30am (AEDT), 10am (ACDT), 9.30am (AEST), 9am (ACST) and 7.30am (AWST).

Who is Bakhram Murtazaliev?

Murtazaliev hails from the town of Grozny in Russia. The 31-year-old is seeking to maintain his undefeated stretch of the past 10 years at super welterweight level and defend his IBF title against Tszyu.

He is two years older than his Australian opponent and has a 9cm height advantage (183cm vs. 174cm).

According to Los Angeles-based Australian boxing trainer Justin Fortune, Tszyu will need ‘to stop him to beat him’.
