Tim Tszyu had blurred vision throughout upset boxing loss

Tim Tszyu has confirmed what everyone assumed watching on during his bloody defeat to Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas.

Tim Tszyu was left with a “trophy for life” and fought blind throughout his brutal loss to Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas.

Hot favourite Tszyu started well before an errant elbow opened a huge cut on the top of his head and changed the direction of the fight.

Somehow the 29-year-old fought out the full 12 rounds before losing a split decision and falling short in his attempt to unify the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles.

Tszyu required 10 stitches in the cut that refused to stop bleeding in the ring and in his first full comments after the fight, told Main Event he plans to “come back bigger and better and stronger”.

“In all honesty I started landing the shots and then, I don’t want to make excuses, but this cut was quite frustrating,” Tszyu said.

“I remember as soon as it happened, it was like a fountain.

“I was like ‘no way’. It is what it is, he came back and I guess he got me by a point and that’s all it took.”

Asked if he thought the fight might be over after the cut, Tszyu said: “In my head yeah I actually did in my honest opinion. I thought there was no way this can continue.

“I haven’t really seen the replay yet so I’m curious to see how big it actually was and how much, because there was a lot of blood.”

Tszyu replied “nothing” when asked if he could see anything, before stating: “It was just blurry, it was just blurriness the whole time, the whole fight.”

Tszyu earned widespread praise for both his ability to last the distance and his lack of excuses afterwards.

He stressed he didn’t think the fight should have been stopped and wasn’t sure if he might have done enough to win.

Tszyu suffered a horrific dog bite to his right arm in June last year that briefly put his career in doubt and he could at least find some humour when discussing his latest significant cut.

“Not as bad as the dog bite, so no operation needed,” he said with a grin.

“But I’ll be in Hawaii (taking a break) with this little thing and I’ve got a trophy for the rest of my life now on the top of my head.”

Tszyu plans to quickly get back in the gym and prepare for his next bout and has no doubt he belongs at this level of the sport.

But he wouldn’t accept any congratulations at the end of the interview.

“Nah man, you can’t congratulate me because I lost,” he said.

“If it ain’t a win, then I’m not satisfied. And I’m quite devastated so. It is what it is.

“I’m not a winner.”
