Tim Tszyu bucks the official rankings in our list of Australia’s current top 10 male boxers

According to boxing’s official record keeper, Tim Tszyu has plummeted down the rankings of Australia’s top pound-for pound male fighters, but our experts BRENDAN BRADFORD and PETER BADEL beg to differ.

Tszyu to lift profile of other Aussies

Tim Tszyu fights to become a two-time world champion against Bakhram Murtazaliev in Orlando this weekend, but ‘The Soul Taker’ is already this country’s pound-for-pound king.

That’s despite Boxrec dropping Tszyu down to fourth in their rankings.

Boxrec is the sport’s official record keeper and an indispensable tool for those in the fight game, and uses a formula to determine its rankings.

As reported by this masthead this week, Boxrec has Jai Opetaia, Liam Paro and Sam Goodman above Tszyu after his bloody defeat to Sebastian Fundora in March.

It’s a difficult task splitting the top four, but Tszyu’s busy schedule, quality of opponents and development into a genuine world class star sees him topping our official pound-for-pound rankings.

The super-welterweight star can put an exclamation mark on that spot against Murtazaliev this weekend, while Opetaia, Paro and Goodman all eye up top spot.

Read on for our official pound-for-pound top 10 male boxers in Australia.
