From Western Sydney to the world.

Aussie boxing’s rising star, Daniel Lewis, has scored a dream berth on the undercard of one of the biggest fights of the year — the world heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

The much-anticipated Las Vegas rematch between Fury and Wilder on February 22 at the MGM Grand will draw a global TV audience of more than 10 million viewers.

And in an indication of his increasing reputation in the US, Lewis, the 2016 Olympian and junior middleweight, has been gifted a starring role and career-defining exposure.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the unbeaten Lewis will fight towering American Sebastian Fundora on the Fury-Wilder undercard.

Fundora, who has had 14 bouts for 13 wins and a draw, stands at 197cm. It’s a height similar to that of heavyweights Wladimir Klitschko, Anthony Joshua and Wilder.

The match-up for Lewis is a dangerous one given he stands 19cm shorter than his rival.

But the fight is an indication of where the Londonderry-raised fighter is willing to go to prove he’s world class.

“Daniel has always said he wants to fight the best,’’ manager Peter Mitrevski told The Sunday Telegraph.

“No one in Australia will fight us, but Top Rank Boxing (promoters) called us about this opportunity, as they’re acutely aware of the talent Daniel has.

“We’re fighting a blue chip prospect in Sebastian, which is exactly what Daniel wants because he’s prepared to fight anyone.

“That’s the beauty of Daniel Lewis — his goal is to be a world champion.

“Unlike other fighters who promote themselves on social media, where not for show, our motto is “got gloves, will travel.”

Lewis will fly to the US next week to start his preparation and training.

Having recently extended his deal with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Boxing, Lewis is fast building his profile in the US.

Lewis made an impression overseas when he earned a convincing unanimous decision victory over Alexis Gaytan in his first fight in the US last November.

It was that win on the undercard to Miguel Berchelt’s WBC super featherweight title fight with Jason Sosa that impressed more than just Top Rank officials.

The 26-year-old was subsequently invited to a training camp with pound-for-pound king Terrence Crawford prior to Christmas.

In 2019, Lewis was also hired as a sparring partner for Danny Jacobs in the lead-up to the New Yorker’s bout with Canelo Alvarez.
