SUGAR Shane Mosley has angrily rejected claims he is punch drunk, saying: “Go tell my doctor that and he’ll look at you like you’re crazy”.

Speaking with The Sunday Telegraph from his famed Californian fight camp ‘Big Bear’, Mosley has hit out at those critics suggesting, at 42, he is no longer just over the hill, but risking his health by fighting Anthony Mundine in Sydney on October 23.

And the Future Hall of Famer, who is due to arrive Down Under this week, says he will prove his worth by not only earning an “easy” $1 million payday from Team Mundine, but sending Australia’s most controversial athlete into retirement via knockout.

“Anyone who says I’m shot, they have no idea what’s going on,” Mosley said. “I speak regularly with a whole number of doctors, specialists, all these medical experts who insist my brain is fine. That I’m in better shape than a lot of guys in their 20s.

“People making these claims, they aren’t in the mix of things.”

When pushed on suggestions his speech may have slowed slightly, among the early signs of being punch drunk, the world champion in three weight divisions fired: “Absolutely ludicrous.

“You come over and ask my doctors if I’m shot, ask boxing people in the US if I’m shot and they’ll look at you like you’re crazy.

“And, yes, I know Anthony Mundine is expecting to fight a shell of Sugar Shane. But I can tell you I’m still 90% of the fighter that won world titles. I’m coming Down Under to win. And win by knockout.”

Once hailed the greatest fighter on the planet, Mosley has slowed significantly in recent years -- losing four of five fights since 2009. And while two of those were against Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, both were near shutouts.

Yet to be fair, the naysayer were also out in force when American great Antonio Tarver signed on to fight Aussie favourite Danny Green in 2011. Then the Magic Man flew into Sydney, grabbed $1.5 million and stopped Green within nine rounds.

Asked why he would fight an Australian with no world title and zero reputation Stateside, Mosley continued: “Look, Anthony wants to use me for recognition in America and I’m using him as a warm up to my next fight.

“Obviously, the payday helps. I was offered $200,000 to fight Victor Ortiz or $1 million for Mundine. I took the million.

“And while I wouldn’t say it’s an easy earn, it’s easy in that fighting is what I love.

“Floyd, Manny, Juan Manuel Marquez - they’re the fights I want. And to fight without injury.

“First time around against Mayweather, everyone was saying ‘oh, Shane doesn’t have the legs’. No, because I did my Achillies, did my groin . . . I’m sure one of the reasons Anthony wants to fight me is because he thinks I can’t move anymore. That’s his problem.”
