Rising Aussie featherweight Brock Jarvis set for first fight in over 12 months against Mark Schleibs

‘He’s as strong as anyone I have ever worked with.’ That’s quite a rap from his Hall of Fame trainer as Brock Jarvis prepares to get back into the ring after more than 12 months.

Rising boxer Brock Jarvis has shown off his cut new rig ahead of Friday night’s big fight against Mark Schleibs in Canberra.

The unbeaten Jarvis has powered through a torturous training schedule during COVID and will step into the ring with a fearsome frame.

“Over the past 14 months, Brock has gone from a boy’s body to a man’s body,’ said Jarvis’ trainer, Hall of Fame boxer Jeff Fenech.

“He has grown. Brock is as strong as anyone I have ever worked with. I fought at his weight and I was a big featherweight, too.

“You can look good and it might mean nothing but this kid only looks good for one reason – sheer hard work. He doesn’t try to look how he looks. He is just the ultimate professional.

“The Australian boxing public will see something special coming on Friday night. I expect Brock to stop him inside six rounds.”

Jarvis, 22, has an impressive record of 17-0 with 15 KOs. Fellow Australian Schleibs, nicknamed Magic Man, is 12-0 (8 KOs).

The fight will headline a seven-bout card at Coorong Pavilion, Exhibition Park, with Jarvis and Schleibs fighting for the IBF Intercontinental and WBC diamond featherweight titles.

“I have been training real hard,” Jarvis said.

“I just want to win. I really want to win this fight.

“I’m feeling sharp. I’m getting some weight off at the moment and once that happens then it’s the fun part.

“Nothing has changed for me. I really want to win this fight before I start to think about anything else.”

A sponsor of Jarvis, Sydney businessman and former Penrith Panthers star Lou Zivanovic, added: “Brock is the most focused and single-minded sportsman I have ever met for his age.”

Jarvis’ last fight was a unanimous points win over Ernesto Saulong on the Jeff Horn-Michael Zerafa undercard more than a year ago.

The unbeaten Jarvis has 15 KOs from 17 bouts.

Victory gave Jarvis the WBO Oceania super bantamweight title. He had plans to fight several times since but his bouts were cancelled because of COVID.

Schleibs, 27, from Melbourne, last fought in August, 2019. He is trained by Australian boxing legend Lester Ellis.

“I believe in my skills and I believe I can beat Jarvis,” Schleibs said.

Fenech is mapping out Jarvis’s future but wants to ensure his young fighter is totally absorbed with defeating Schleibs.
