Nikita Tszyu has hit back at his brother’s ‘ignorant’ critics saying there is ‘no use listening to idiots’

Nikita Tszyu has opted to use the same corner staff for his first title defence, despite the team being under fire for their treatment in brother Tim’s bloodbath fight just weeks ago.

Nikita Tszyu v Danilo Creati - Full Press Conference

Nikita Tszyu wants an ‘arousing’ and bloody Australian super-welterweight title defence against Danilo Creati on April 24, and has hit back at “ignorant” commentators who criticised the cornermen who worked on older brother Tim’s cut against Sebastian Fundora two weeks ago.

Brushing off any and all criticism, Nikita will use the exact same cornermen when he makes the first defence of his Australian title at the Hordern Pavilion.

He also challenged the elusive Creati to a firefight, and called for longtime Tszyu rival Michael Zerafa to retire from the sport.

Nikita was ringside for Tim’s world title bloodbath at T-Mobile Arena, and says those criticising cutman Mark Gambin are uninformed.

“It’s just all ignorance, they don’t know what’s going on, so I tend not to look at what other people say,” Tszyu told this masthead. “I consider a lot of people in this sport idiots, so there’s no use in listening to idiots talk.

“Even some of the apparent professionals saying they couldn’t stop the cut.

“Our team doctor, Dr Bill, said if it’s a cut through the vein like it was, there’s no way you could stop it in a minute. You need 15 minute’s worth of pressure to stop the bleeding.

“It’s like putting a bandaid on a hose and expecting it to hold. It’s impossible and they did everything they could.

“The corner did their best.

“They’ll be in my corner. Nothing changes, we’re family.”

Nikita is adamant Tim won the fight, and was left in awe at what his older brother pulled off.

“I was shocked with how much blood he lost,” he said. “I get dizzy after taking a little sample of blood for the doctor and Tim lost a litre of it and was still able to perform.

“It’s insane. That heart, it’s not something you can train, it’s something you’re born with.

“The fact he couldn’t see and was still dominating the fight was amazing. The hurdles he had to overcome, and he’s fighting blind…I’m very proud to have him as a brother.”

Having seen what Tim did, Nikita wants his own fight with Creati to be as bloody as possible.

“Seeing all the blood it was quite arousing for me,” he said of Tim’s fight. “I’m attracted to that kind of gruesomeness and if we can get it happening in this fight I’m happy for it.

“I’m happy to be cut.

“I’d love there to be messiness, I’d love to stain the ring, my boxing shorts, his boxing shorts.”

Former five-time Italian national champion Creati is an elusive and awkward test for Tszyu in his eighth professional fight.

The 8-1-1 underdog has an upset win over Cameron Hammond, took Michael Zerafa the distance and is only too happy to oblige Tszyu’s preference for putting on a spectacle.

“I love it,” he said. “I’m keen to go for a fight like that. I never step back.

“He’s a human being like everyone, with flaws. We saw these flaws with Dylan Biggs and with Jack Brubaker.

“He’s fragile. His chin is fragile, and we’re gonna go for it.”

If Tszyu can get past Creati, he has a mouth-watering hit list of domestic opponents lined up, including Brock Jarvis and Koen Mazoudier.

“We sparred a couple of times in the amateurs,” Nikita said of Jarvis. “It was just when he was starting off as well.

“I remember kicking his ass. So, let’s go again, we’ll see how much he’s improved. With small 10 ounce gloves (in the pros) and over 10 rounds…Poor Brocky.”

Zerafa is another potential future opponent for Tszyu, following the Melbournian’s second round knockout defeat to Erislandy Lara on Tim’s undercard.

The rivalry between Zerafa and Team Tszyu goes back years, but Nikita scoffs at suggestions he should fight Zerafa.

“It’s amusing to me,” laughed. “I’ll fight him, I’ll fight anyone.

“But at this point, I don’t think he needs another fight like that on his resume. He doesn’t need another loss.

“He’s achieved a lot already, but I feel like it’s retirement time for him. That’s just my opinion.

“After the loss, that beautiful knockout to Lara, I don’t know what he wants to do.

“It’s a hard one to come back from.”
