Dylan Biggs calls for Nikita Tszyu rematch after Newcastle battering

Dylan Biggs has opened up on his amazing one-armed effort against Nikita Tszyu and revealed the mid-match words which will drive a rematch.

‘You are going to have to kill me’.

Driven by those mid-fight words, fallen champion Dylan Biggs wants a rematch with Nikita Tszyu after revealing he took a broken hand into Wednesday night’s Australian title blockbuster in Newcastle.

The two young guns waged a domestic super welterweight slugfest, with Tszyu overcoming a first-round knockdown to batter Biggs and claim the Australian title his brother Tim held four years ago.

Underlining his character, Queensland sensation Biggs initially refused to talk about his busted hand. But when Fox Sports showed footage post-fight of Biggs’ left hand looking purple and badly swollen, the 21-year-old was forced to spill the beans.

News Corp has obtained images of the injury that rendered Biggs (10-1, 7KO) a one-armed bandit in training for more than a month.

“I didn’t want to tell anyone about my hand because I didn’t want to make any excuses,” Biggs said.

“This is the fight game and everyone has injuries of some sort.

“I didn’t want to take the moment away from Nikita - hats off to him, it was an awesome performance from him.

“I told my coach I wanted to keep the injury quiet.

“I did it five weeks ago while I was in camp in Thailand, so it’s been a tough prep.

“I was home for 16 days and the whole time it’s been one-handed sparring with my right hand only.

“When I dropped him in the first round, I thought, ‘My hand is gone, I need to finish him off now’.

“Nikita showed great toughness to fight back, he got up and fought like a warrior.

“It was the best performance I could ask for … I died on my sword out there.”

The defeat represented the first loss of Biggs’ 11-fight professional career and the ‘Beaudesert Storm’ said he would relish a title rematch with Tszyu, now unbeaten in eight bouts with seven stoppages.

Biggs showed incredible toughness to survive a brutal beating in the fourth round, before finally succumbing in the fifth with one second left.

“I said to him in the fourth round, ‘You are going to have to kill me’,” Biggs said.

“I said, ‘I’m not going out unless you put me on my arse’.

“I would stand there and take it and keep dishing it back until I couldn’t throw punches anymore.

“I would love a rematch of course. But after he stopped me, even though I dropped him first, it’s in their court now. I can’t sit here after a loss and start calling him out like an idiot, that’s not me.

“I never thought of pulling out. I never back down from a fight, no matter the odds, unless I have a broken leg or something ridiculous.

“But an injury like this, I will always fight and that’s just my mindset.

“I’m back to the drawing board now. I have to take some time off to get my hand right, but a rematch with Nikita would be good.”

While he was clobbered by Tszyu, Biggs isn’t convinced Nikita has world-class power.

“Nikita is a tough guy, but to be honest I’ve been hit by harder punches,” he said.

“I would say Stevie Spark (Biggs’ stablemate) punches harder than Nikita, but he punched me to exhaustion.

“Without doing the high intensity of two-handed sparring, I didn’t quite have the fitness.

“There’s no doubt Nikita has improved a lot. There’s still the openings – I dropped him in the first round – but he keeps coming at you which is a credit to him.”
