Deontay Wilder unleashes on ‘sorry’ contender Tyson Fury

We were ready for Deontay Wilder versus Tyson Fury two. So was Deontay Wilder, who has dropped some heavyweight sledging at the Gypsy King.

Maybe this is just the hype machine going into overdrive or maybe Tyson Fury is running scared.

Because if taken at face value that’s what Deontay Wilder is saying.

The Bronze Bomber held onto his WBC heavyweight title in the pair’s draw back in December at the Staples Center in controversial circumstances.

Wilder was given the nod 115-111 on one card, Fury 114-110 on another, with the third judge scoring the fight 113-113.

Many pundits scored the fight for Fury but it could have also been waived off for Wilder, who left Fury sprawled on the canvas in the 12th and final round of that fight.

The two fighters then looked to lock in an immediate rematch — in fact Fury specifically demanded, it in the ring, post-bout.

“We are two great champions. Nevermind anybody, me and this man here are the two best heavyweights on the planet. I stepped up after the amount of time I had out of the ring,” Fury said in the ring.

Then later on he backed up that statement by again calling for a battle with Wilder.

“I ain’t interested in fighting number ten, number eight, number three, number two — I only want the best. So I want Deontay Wilder next,” he said.

Now he’s walked back on those comments and taken an interim title fight with an as yet unnamed fighter, which has resulted in Wilder unleashing on the Gypsy King on Twitter.

“You sorry mutha****a. We knew you only said this bec(ause) you knew you wasn’t fighting me next. #CloutChaser you requested a warm-up fight first. I don’t blame you tho, I probably would too if I saw my brains splashed all over the canvas. #Timberrr #Bih #RunHoeRun #NoSmokeWanted” Wilder tweeted.

Never one to step away, at least from a bit of verbal sparring, Fury hit back at Wilder on Twitter, questioning how it feels to not be as popular as a Brit is in his home country of America.

“Get yourself a bit more well known in America first kid & then I’ll give you another chance.! I already beat you & the world knows it & so do you. Must be hard for you that a British fighter has taken over the USA, watch me whippppp,” Fury tweeted.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman expressed his disappointment at the news that Fury has a different fight lined up in May or June.

“It feels like someone let all the air out of the balloon,” Sulaiman said.

“We are at great moment in the heavyweight division and there was a lot of excitement for this rematch.”

Wilder is expected to next take on mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale.

And while we wait for the name of Fury’s next opponent it will definitely not be fellow Brit and multiple heavyweight titleholder Anthony Joshua, who will fight American Jarrell Miller on June 1.
