Dennis Hogan’s camp suffered a major robbery in crime-riddled Mexico and pulled out the big guns to make sure there would be no repeat when their all-action Brisbane fighter challenges world 70kg boxing champ Jaime Munguia in Monterrey on Sunday.

Just hours after he had a tablet computer stolen from his luxury hotel room, Hogan’s trainer Glenn Rushton was in urgent talks with the World Boxing Organisation to make sure there would be no suspicion of robbery in Sunday’s showdown.

Hogan, 34, is trying to become the first Queenslander to win a world boxing title overseas and in his final training session averaged more than 200 punches a round for the eight rounds he did on the heavy bag before moving on to punching mitts and shadow sparring.

Rushton’s American representative Peter Kahn received an assurance from the WBO that Florida’s Frank Gentile would be the referee and not Mexican Miguel Canul, as reports out of American indicated last week.

The World Boxing Organisation President Paco Valcarel, who supervised Jeff Horn’s victory over Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium two years ago, sent Kahn an email last night to confirm that Gentile would referee the bout and that Americans Rocky Young, Richard Levine and Waleska Roldan would be the three judges.

Roldan was one of the judges on the 2017 Horn-Pacquiao fight which the “Fighting Schoolteacher’’ won in a huge upset by unanimous decision.

Rushton said he was relieved that no Mexican officials would be involved in the contest.

“We have come to win this fight and to bring the world title back to Brisbane,’’ Rushton said.

“All we’re asking for is a fair shake from the officials.’’

The fight takes place in the 17,000-seat Arena Monterrey.

There has been a huge upsurge of violence in the city in recent years with police crackdowns on drug cartels. There has also been a huge police presence in Monterrey this week, with the confronting sight of officers clad all in black and with black balaclavas toting machine guns while standing on the back of police wagons cruising through the city.

Monterrey’s Metropolitan Operation, launched in February, recorded 829 arrests in its first two weeks for crimes related to drugs, robbery and homicide.

Dublin-born Hogan, who has lived in Australia for nine years, has the beginnings of a red Ned Kelly-style beard and is promising a shootout between big guns on Sunday.

Hogan put together some blistering combinations last night as Rushton held the punching mitts and the trainer was visibly hurt as Hogan landed a series of thudding right hands to close the session.

“He can stop a train the way he is punching,’’ Rushton said.

“Dennis has a phenomenal workrate and that will be a key to victory.’’

Rushton’s missing tablet also contained a detailed analyses of Munguia, as well and the trainer’s eight-point plan to win the WBO title on Sunday. But Hogan says he’s ready for any situation after months of preparation.
