Pound for pound boxing icon Terence Crawford is heading down under, scheduled to spend a week in Australia before preparing for the biggest fight of his career and the most keenly anticipated boxing match of 2025.
Crawford – who beat Brisbane schoolteacher Jeff Horn for the WBO welterweight world title in 2018 – will spend two days on the Gold Coast, two days in Melbourne and two days in Sydney between May 26 and May 31 before jetting back home to America to prepare for his scheduled September blockbuster with Canelo Alvarez.
“What’s up everybody out there in Australia, I’ll be out there on May 26 to the 31st,” Crawford said. “Tap in, I’ll see you soon. Let’s go.”
Crawford will visit gyms in all three cities, with the highlight being a dinner and meet-and-greet at the Melbourne Pavilion on the 29th.
The tour is the brain child of former pro boxer Grant ‘Tassie’ Brown, who convinced the former undisputed super-lightweight and welterweight world champion to come to Australia.
“These are the only dates he could do it before he goes into camp for the Canelo fight,” Brown said. “There will be meet and greets at gyms at every city and we’ll announce those soon.
“It’s unprecedented – we don’t get anyone in their peak to Australia. Mike Tyson came down, but he was past his prime, Sugar Ray Leonard was past his prime.
“Crawford’s coming down in his prime. He’s fighting Canelo in September. If he beats Canelo, we’re talking the GOAT.
“It’s massive, and we’re getting him right before all of that.”
Crawford most recently beat Israil Madrimov for the WBA and WBO interim world titles, and was even linked to a fight with Tim Tszyu in the past.
The 37-year-old cemented his spot as an all-time great with a one-sided demolition of long-time rival Errol Spence in 2023 and is strongly said to be fighting Canelo on Netflix in September in Las Vegas.
In June 2018, he ended the world title reign of Aussie hero Horn with a clinical ninth round TKO at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
