There are few sweeter words in all of sport than ‘Game Seven’. Now we get one as Boston Celtics host Miami Heat in Game 7 on Tuesday morning with a trip to the Finals on the line.
It looked more impossible than me getting a girlfriend in high school (s/o NBA Straya), but now a Boston Celtics team that was down 0-3 in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals has clawed the series back to 3-3.
Boston now heads home looking to be the first NBA team ever to come back from 0-3 and lock in a trip to the NBA finals and punters have plenty to ponder.

That Boston is even in this position is remarkable: Derrick White’s game-winning put-back off a Marcus Smart miss while down 1 with 0.1 left on the clock saw the Celtics win Game 6 and now it gets the chance to pull off the historical comeback on home parquet.
No. 2 seed Boston (57-25) was the better team all year, but fell in an 0-3 hole against 8-seed Miami (44-38) due to lackadaisical defence, hot Heat shooting and its role players trash-talking Jimmy Butler (good job, Grant Williams).
It’s a Game 7, so expect it to be a close, hard-fought contest.
10 of the last 15 Game 7s have hit this game’s total point under mark.
- Total Points - Under 203: $1.95 (via TopSport)
Miami will try its absolute hardest to make this game a rock fight as it did in the second-half of Game 6, while Jimmy ‘Himmy’ Butler will absolutely empty the clip with a chance to get back to the Finals.
Butler had 24/11/8 in Game 6 while having a horrendous (5-21) shooting night, but in the ECF Game 7 last year against Boston, he had 35-9 and nearly won the game by himself.
- Jimmy Butler - 45+ points, rebounds and assists: $2.25 (via Betr)
But in Game 7 Boston goes as its superstars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown go.
Tatum had a Game 7-record 51 points in the East semis against Philadelphia two weeks ago and averages 27.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists in his 16 (!) elimination games.
More importantly, Boston is 8-1 in its past nine elimination contests and Tatum has averaged 32.7 points a game in those games. If Boston is to win, Tatum needs to go big.
- Jayson Tatum - 30+ points: $1.62 (via bet365 and Betr)
The game will also depend on which team’s role players deliver: for Miami it will be the likes of Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, Duncan Robinson and Kyle Lowry (who would love nothing more than to show up big in a road Game 7). Caleb Martin, though, has been Miami’s best role player all series while averaging 18.3 points a game.
- Caleb Martin - 15+ points: $1.78 (via Betr)
But at home Boston will need the old head of Al Horford to fill in the rebounding gaps, make some nifty passes and hit open threes: in Games 4 and 5 he had 23 and 22 points, rebounds and assists combined.
- Al Horford - Over 16.5+ points, rebounds, assists: $1.90 (via bet365)
WHO WINS?
A sixth elimination game win from Boston would tie the record in NBA history in a single postseason. Boston is also a ridiculous 5-1 in Game 7s since the 2017 playoffs: this group knows how to play with everything on the line.
Miami won’t go quietly, however, plus in Game 7s, close games (under 10 points) are 15-11 compared to blowouts.
Boston (37-14 at home this season and 29-22 against the points spread line) possess the talent to win, but it will be too close for comfort for Boston fans, even if it the Celtics get over the hump: Miami has covered the line in nine of its last 11 as underdogs.
Boston will make history, but Miami will make them work for it.
BEST BET: Miami Heat +8.5 $1.73 (via Betr)
