Aussie NBA star Josh Giddey joined NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain as the only two players in league history to record triple-doubles in their first two games at Madison Square Garden after a second star turn in New York.

After putting up a 28-point triple-double in an overtime win over the Knicks in his rookie season, Giddey was at it again on Monday morning, knocking down 24 points to go with 10 rebounds and 12 assists to join NBA legend Chamberlain in rare air.

“Any time you can be mentioned within the names of greats like that, it’s special,” Giddey said after helping guide his team to a 145-135 win.

“But basketball is a team game, so if those things contribute to winning and helping my guys around me be better, then it makes it worth it.”

It was a fifth career triple-double for Giddey, who admitted he was excited to play at the iconic venue.

“We come here once a year, so you have to have fun while you’re here,” he said.

“In my time we’ve had two wins, so it’s been all good so far.

“It’s a fun place to play, the most famous arena in the world. I always had this arena circled on my calendar, so I can’t wait to come back next year.”

The win, with Giddey’s teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contributing 37 points, helps the Thunder to a 6-7 win-loss record through the opening 13 games of the season.
