David Akers and Vince Young stole the show at the NFL Draft

THE NFL Draft is a place for young superstars to make their mark, the spotlight was hilariously stolen by a former kicker.

LESS Roger Goodell was supposed to mean less booing during the second and third rounds of the NFL draft Friday. No one told David Akers.

The former Eagles kicker — and franchise scoring leader — took the Arlington, Texas, stage to announce the team’s second-round pick and used his moment in the spotlight to antagonise fans of his old NFC rival Cowboys.

The hometown fans tried to drown out Akers with their boos, but for about a minute and a half, the retired kicker shouted out reminders of where the Super Bowl-winning Eagles are and where the Cowboys are not.

“What’s up, Dallas?” Akers screamed by way of introduction. “We heard you in Philly last year! I like standing up here before you as an undrafted free agent, representing that shield for 15 years, and tonight, I’m representing the Philadelphia Eagles!”

That’s when Akers really started to rub it in.

“NFC East champs!” he said. “Divisional champs! NFC champs! And world champs! The world champs!”

Then he got personal.

“Hey, Dallas, the last time you were in the Super Bowl, these draft picks weren’t born!” he said.

Finally, he introduced the pick — South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert — then walked off, but not before delivering one last “Go Birds!” and a salute.

Akers may not be welcome back to Cowboys country anytime soon, but he’s probably got a beer and a pat on the back waiting for him back in Philadelphia.

Akers’ brilliant roasting of Cowboys fans wasn’t the only highlight out of the night with former quarterback Vince Young stealing some shine.

Young stepped up to the podium to announce the Tennessee Titans second round pick, only problem was he completely butchered the first name and it wasn’t exactly a tough one.

His attempt at pronouncing the name Harold ended up sounding more like Arnold.

Following the major slip up, Young began trending on Twitter with the crowd having a field day on the mistake.

While the NFL Draft is a place where dreams are made for the future generation of star player’s, it provides the perfect platform for former player’s to hop back into the spotlight for good and bad.
